Hearing that the CN was late arriving into the Twin Cities, I felt compelled to take advantage of the opportunity on a sunny weekend day. Thanks to some afternoon sun and fresh snow, I had my pick of spots to check out, so I settled on the curves between Jewett and Cylon - a place I've admired come back home from Gordon, Wisconsin. I've driven through here dozens of times and wished the CN Minneapolis Subdivision had more trains for to take advantage of the pleasant scenery.
I settled on this curve and the wait was on...and continued for well over a hour...closer to an hour and 15 minutes. In that time, I counted five cars passed this location, one of which was Dean Sauvola according to the remarks on one of this photos. I had a text warning system set up with Khang Lu who was camped out to the east of Cylon.
Finally after 3:00pm, the train appeared fashionably late here at Jewett with CN 5670 leading and a KCS unit trailing. I did not realized there would be double stack containers for the New Richmond Autoport, so the train's appearance was much different than I expected.
I've found yet more evidence that Men In Black was a documentary. This Cylon Raider is disguised as a Nuclear Reactor Pump Station on the acreage of 'an abandoned nuclear facility' at Satsop. Armed guards drive in circles around the place making certain that no one attempts to fly off with it which is good since we've all seen how deadly they are against the Viper Mark Fours.....
Tonia and I were questioned within minutes of our arrival and the guy kept circling back. I'll post a pseudo documentary shot shortly so you can see these things. Haven't found a height on them yet, still looking. :-)

Ok, next installment of a set of photos from recent visit to Hawaii. As I mentioned in the first photo, I took a day trip to the big island of Hawaii to do a helicopter tour over the lava flows at Kilauea with Kevin Benedict. We were expertly piloted in a dawn "doors off" flight by Paradise Helicopters, and accompanied by expert lava photographer Bruce Omori of Extreme Exposure.
It was one of the best things I've ever experienced, and having a set of interesting photos as a takeaway is just a bonus. As I said with my first photo, I kept seeing faces and "creatures" in the closeups of the lava. This was one of the first I spotted and I actually saw this face from the air (vs. recognizing it in the photo after the fact), so I was very excited to see the photo after I got back on the ground. Fortunately it did not disappoint and what I see here is like some unholy merger of an elephant and a robotic Cylon from the original Battlestar Galatica series (for those of an age to remember that!).
Shot with Pentax K-3ii and Pentax 150-450mm lens at 800 ISO/F4.5/150mm. Now for the final piece of the story that I made reference to in my last post: this was not the camera I wanted to shoot with in Hawaii. Pentax announced a new full frame camera in February, and I immediately placed a pre-order for that and it was expected to be delivered in mid-April. It was finally released just at the end of April and took a few days to make its way to US stores. My pre-order was finally fulfilled on the 4th, overnight shipped on the 5th and arrived on 6th. It was delivered to my home 3 hours after our plane took off for Hawaii. I tried several ways to see if I could get it diverted to Hawaii or re-shipped but none would get it there in time for our helicopter flight. So, after waiting approximately 1800 hours, the delivery missed my trip by 3 hours. I was very bummed about this because I new that the lava shooting would require high ISO and fast focus, both of which the new Pentax K-1 is supposed to do much better than my K-3. Fortunately, the ISO did not turn out to be a huge issue as the texture of the lava seems to hide a lot of noise nicely. And the new Pentax 150-450mm lens I did get in time focused plenty fast and delivered great results. So, now I get to look forward to breaking in the new K-1 on my next photo trip to Columbia River Gorge coming up in a couple of weeks.
it's dangerous leaving me with a camera when i'm bored....
potentially, a bit more interesting, large.

It's not easy shooting out of the Emirates Airline cable cars that cross the Thames. This is one of the few that came out without any reflection problems.

Who knows what I did to this photo... HDR, cross-processing, curves, color mixer, add noise to make it all grimy, layer layer tweak tweak...
PS. I'm pretty sure there are Cylons in there.

Hot on the heels of the 2004 Battlestar Galactica TV series, here is my minifig scale Cylon Raider. Originally suggested to me by Brickvault, it took me about 3 weeks to design. It is the strongest (VERY swooshable) model I have ever created and is very accurate to the shape and proportions of the Mk II Raider.
The ship is 32.5cm long and 20cm wide and is made of 656 pieces (including my signature angled stand). It is also very accurately scaled to the Colonial Viper created by Flying Waffle which you can find on Brickvault's webstore.

I decided to follow L574 for a bit given the fine fall day. They had evidently dropped four empty centerbeam lumber flats at Cylon on the way west. They briefly paused to grab those cars off the elevator track. I decided to revisit an old favorite shot of mine, one that works particularly well with a solo locomotive. East of Cylon, L574 crosses County Road S on one of the classic overpasses found on the Minneapolis Sub. The road has recently received a fresh coat of blacktop with new stripes. Note the gap in the centerline where the lanes squeeze together under the bridge. October 31, 2022.
L517 had a slow night only making it to Chippewa Falls on their hours of service, L506 cabbed out to dog catch the train making for a daylight run on the Minneapolis Sub. Here L506 rounds the bend just west of Cylon with the next stop in 20 minutes at New Richmond to set out autoracks at the autoport facility.
My favourite Sci-fi atm..next to Babylon 5.I've just finished season 1 and will be on season 2 tonight.Does anyone else like this one? i have a theory on it.I think everyone on board is a fracking Cylon lol...And the Cylons themselves are also Cylons that are yet to evolve.I could be wrong though hahaaha..
